Is it pink or red?  That’s the question, I ask when it comes to Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year: Viva Magenta (18-1750 color code).  The color authority says the color vibrates with vim and vigor. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Described as brave and fearless, with a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.

When I think of Magenta, I see it in the reddish-purple family of colors, but the 2023 color of the year Viva Magenta is bold and vibrates a mix of deep red, bright pink, and purple tones.  I am obsessed with it.  It’s the POP of color that can elevate your wardrobe, invoke conversations with home decor and make a stunning statement at any wedding ceremony and reception.

“This year’s Color of the Year is powerful and empowering. It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement. Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same verve for life and a rebellious spirit.  It is a color that is audacious, full of wit, and inclusive of all” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director for the Pantone Color Institute,

As the year progresses this eye-catching shade will trend big in many industries especially fashion, interior design, and weddings.  With this color being so dramatic, it makes for striking wall art, upholstered accent chairs, showstopping floral blooms, and whimsy dresses for any season and occasion.

What I love about this color is that it can be paired with almost any color, jewel tones (emerald, sapphire, and amethyst), muted earth tones (Terracotta, sage, and taupe), and metallics ( gold, silver, and rose gold).  Welcome to the Magentaverse!
